This device counts the peak value and continuous duration of inducted lightning surge current as energy volume, so, with a 10/200μs lightning surge waveform as reference, it can categorize and display three levels, depending on the input current value. Further, it judges waveforms longer than 10/200μs to have more current, and shorter waveforms to have less, and counts based on this judgement. The unit comprises an external current transformer (CT) and built-in electronic counter housed in a plastic case. The unit’s current comes from a lithium battery built into the electronic counter, making the unit practically maintenance-free.
